Partnership with FITT

The UPEI School of Business has partnered with FITT to offer the FITTskills program. FITT (Forum for International Trade Training) is an international trade training and professional certification body. As the only organization of its kind in the world, FITT sets the standards and designs the training programs leading to the Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation. FITT’s quality training programs impart knowledge and practical skills that provide a competitive advantage to trade practitioners while elevating their position in world markets. 

As a deliverer of FITT programs, the UPEI School of Business provides students with an opportunity to explore international trade elements of global entrepreneurship, management, marketing, financing, logistics, market entry and distribution, market research and trade law with seasoned exporters. Private and public sector participants are able to take the FITTskills courses individually or as a comprehensive program. Students acquire critical understanding of the global trading environment and the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today's competitive world markets, while strengthening the export performance of their firms.

FITTskills Program

FITTskills is a highly practical, hands-on series of courses that focus on the fundamental aspects of international business. Upon successful completion of all eight (8) courses and assessments, students will be awarded a FITT Diploma in International Trade. This diploma fulfills the educational requirement of the CITP designation. Courses include:

The CITP Designation

The CITP designation is earned by obtaining the FITT diploma and meeting standards and requirements set by FITT. These requirements are:

  • Complete the educational requirement by achieving the FITT diploma;
  • Complete or prove a minimum of one year, full-time, international trade work experience;
  • Agree to the Standards of Ethical Conduct;
  • Pay the annual dues and maintain the membership in good standing; and
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.

Admission Requirements

  • Be employed by an export or export ready firm.
  • Be employed by a department or agency of the federal, provincial or municipal government with a mandate to develop international trade.
  • Recent graduate of a post-secondary institution or equivilant experience.
  • Eligible to work in Canada for 52 weeks at the time of application.

Fees

  • $625 for each module
  • $125 for the exam/project
  • $125 for the textbook

Application

Cancellation Policy

  • A written request to discontinue must be recieved by the UPEI FITTskills coordinator two weeks prior to the start date of the course. Should the student fail to meet this deadline a fee of 25% of course cost ($225) will be charged provided that the course materials are returned to UPEI in their original condition. If the course materials are not returned, an additional fee is applicable.
